Quick! Grab a scrub brush from the kitchen, a little paint and check out our Q & A with this week’s Feature Artist Shachi Srivastava!

Challenge: When do you find time to paint with your busy schedule?

SS: For painting I always have time! it's my passion to paint....so first I finish all my work then I feel energized to create some art work as well :)

Challenge: How important is it to know your subject?

SS: I do some research on the subjects I choose and then just go with the flow!

Challenge: I always see such beautiful artwork inspired by the Hindu religion. Does art always play such a significant role in the religion?

SS: I don’t think it’s about religion with art. India is so rich in culture and traditions, that if you start creating art based on Indian culture you will always have something to make :). I love painting the Gods and Goddesses in different symbolic ways. There is so much to do! My favourites are Radha-Krishna and Ganesha. Anytime you make them, they come out somewhat different each time!

Challenge: This is the question I hear most regarding your work – “How does she create so much texture in her paintings?!” Care to share your secret?

SS: For the texture I use a steel scrub. Being a homemaker I use more of these scrubs in everyday life so I started making it an important part of my painting as well. :)

What are you waiting for? Put your everyday life to work in your own masterpiece! Make time to create each and every day just like our Feature Artist!
